Phillips 66 Refinery: Linden, NJ

Plastics are made from fossil fuels. The Bayway refinery was built by Standard Oil in 1909, is now owned by Phillips 66, and is located on the New York Harbor in Linden, NJ. It now includes a petrochemical plant that processes 775 million pounds of  polypropylene, a form of plastic, each year. Polypropylene is used to make a variety of projects including plastic shampoo bottles, car bumpers, athletic apparel, area rugs, and surgical masks. Only 3% of polypropylene gets recycled.
